Lake County, Illinois Car Accident Statistics | Junk Car Blog
Car accidents in Illinois are declining, though the extent of the decline is difficult to determine due to a change in the car accident reporting threshold that began in 2009. For Lake County, which includes the cities of Waukegan, Libertyville, and Grayslake, car accident statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation are not yet available for 2009.
Lake County is home to a large number of commuters who work in and near Chicago, but live in communities like Vernon Hills, Gurnee, and Waukegan. With so many people driving back and forth to work each day, Lake County residents already see traffic congestion even in the county’s smaller cities.
Increased traffic means more car accidents; in 2008, 4,718 Lake County residents were injured in car accidents. Of the nearly twenty thousand total crashes in Lake County, 28 were fatal. About half of the car accidents in Lake County occurred in urban areas on numbered state highways.
Impact of Car Accident Injuries
With fewer than five thousand car accident injuries in 2008, less than 1% of Lake County residents were injured in car accidents that year. However, the impact of a car accident injury on an individual Waukegan or Libertyville family can be both emotionally and financially devastating.
In addition to emotional trauma, a car accident injury can have a severe impact on your family’s finances—medical bills, lost wages and other expenses add up quickly. In today’s economy, many families, especially those without health insurance, simply cannot afford to cover these skyrocketing costs. Even middle-class and upper income families can be severely impacted by these unexpected expenses.
The Importance of Legal Representation
To protect your family from the financial impact of a car accident injury, seek out an experienced car accident lawyer. If you live in Lake County, Illinois, be sure to choose a car accident lawyer familiar with the area, with an office convenient to where you live. Most Lake County lawyers have offices in Waukegan, but many also operate satellite offices in Libertyville and other towns.
Speaking with a car accident lawyer is important because you simply cannot trust insurance companies these days to pay up when they are supposed to. Even if the other driver in the accident has insurance, his or her insurance company may fight your claim and attempt to deny you the benefits you deserve. You need an experienced car accident lawyer to handle your case, standing up to insurance companies and fighting for your right to compensation for your car accident injuries.
