Teddy Atlas prepping heavyweight Alexander Povetkin for title fight

Leave it to Teddy Atlas. 

The man can’t live without drama. 

If Staten Island’s fight guru isn’t arguing with the suits at ESPN or walking away from training some fighter he deems not sufficiently passionate about his craft, he’s taking on promoters in the name of — what else? — the purity of the sport. 

Last night, Atlas put on his trainer’s hat and boarded a red-eye out of New York bound for Moscow and a meeting with his sometime heavyweight Alexander Povetkin. 

The purpose of the journey is to prepare the 31-year-old Russian at warp-speed for an Aug. 27, WBA title bout in Germany against Uzbekistani contender Rusian Ghagaev. 

You thought there was already a WBA champ in the person of Wladimir Klitschko? 

Well, this is boxing, remember. 

Who says you can’t have two champions named by one organization in the same weight class? 

You just designate Klitschko as "Super champ" and move on. 

Anyway, when Atlas arrives in Russia, he will have less than three weeks to ready the 1994 Olympic gold medalist, who has won all 21 of his professional fights. How much training time does the Todt Hill resident usually require to get one of his charges into tip-top shape for a big fight? 

"Eight weeks," he declared yesterday on his way to the airport. "Seven, if there’s no other way." 

Why the rush job for Povetkin, who last fought in December when he toughed out a 10-round decision over Nicolai Firtha despite suffering a broken hand early in the match?

Because the German promoters and Povetkin’s money guys have been pushing for some action, and doing so against Atlas’ wishes. 

"I thought we needed more time to get ready," explained Atlas, who has been yo-yoing between Europe, Russia and the states since taking on the heavyweight’s training duties. "I told everyone that." 

But? 

"They made the fight, anyway" he said, clearly frustrated. "They make the decisions, and they say they are not changing." 

So, there it is. 

It’ll be Aug. 27 in Germany, ready or not. 

And so we have another bubbling storyline from the combative multi-tasker Atlas. 

Promoters rush fight, the headline reads: Trainer and fighter left to play catch-up.

Make sure the T-shirt and sweatshirt sleeves will work in the hat craft. It’s easy, simply put on the shirt so your head goes into the sleeve. If the sleeve is too narrow, it will not work well. If the sleeves are too wide, take a tuck in the seam. If the sweatshirt sleeve is good but the T-shirt sleeve is too wide, it won’t matter much as the t-shirt sleeve will be inside the hat craft. The T-shirt and sweatshirt should be in colors that match or contrast well.

How to make easy no-sew hat craft step #2: Obtaining the T-shirt sleeves:

You will make your long sleeved T-shirt into a sleeveless T-shirt and use the sleeves for the winter hat craft. Make a hole in the sleeve just outside the seam and insert the scissors blade. Cut around the base of the sleeve following the hem. The hem acts as a guide, guaranteeing your sleeveless T-shirt will be neat and even. The sleeveless shirt will be cool and comfortable for hot summer days.

Reach up and inside the cuff of the sweatshirt sleeve and pull the T-shirt sleeve cuff until it is flush with the sweatshirt sleeve. You now have a completed sleeve hat craft.
