CJC warns against use of grills, fire pits
The Central Jackson County Fire Protection District is warning residents that open flame appliances – charcoal barbecue grills, fire pits, etc. – become more dangerous as temperatures rise.
CJC advises against using these appliances. If you must use an open flame, take extra precautions:
Have water ready in case ashes blow out. Dispose of ashes in a metal container once they are completely out. Discard cigarettes in a safe, approved container, not out the window of cars or into grass and flower beds.Remain inside if possible. If you must be outside, remember to drink plenty of water and watch for signs of heat illness: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headache and lack of perspiration. Keep pets indoors and monitor elderly neighbors, family members and children.
