Teele Murphy: The Continuing Importance of Theatre
Name: Teele Murphy, Class of 2011 graduate
Senior Mastery Project: Frustrated by those who believe theatre is no longer significant or necessary, Murphy set out to prove why theatre still plays an important role in today's society. She also explored the evolution of drama throughout history.
The Benefits of Theatre: "It entertains us and gives us something better in our lives than just boring work and everyday cares," Murphy said. "Tragedies...give you insight into your own life. You learn more about who you are, who humans are and why they act certain ways."
It's All Greek to Me: The word "tragedy" literally means "goat song" in Greek. In Ancient Greece, tragedies were developed for festivals that included goat-like dancing around sacrificial goats for prizes.
To Be, or Not to Be: "Shakespeare...entertained people [while] slipping in subtle ideas about life and death, especially in Hamlet ," Murphy said. "The best tragedies...reveal what makes us human and why we act certain ways."
About Teele: While attending Avon High School, she was involved with the drama club and played on the soccer team.
College Bound: This fall, she's heading to the University of Texas in Austin to study theatre and history.

Uz-Translations : Linguistics : Sophrosyne And The Rhetoric Of ...
While of paramount importance to Ancient Greek society, sophrosyne, the value of self-restraint, constitutes a notoriously complex concept, and provides the speaker of Ancient Greek with a subtle instrument for verbal persuasion. This study provides a new description of the semantics of sophrosyne in Archaic and Classical Greek, based on a model from the field of cognitive linguistics. Besides, the volume shows how such a semantic description can contribute to the analysis and study of our sources: it investigates how speakers in our texts (ab)use the term to achieve their ends, covering most of the main texts, and culminating in a chapter on the dialogues of Plato.
