Mixtape Review: Danny Brown's “XXX”
Watching Danny Brown rap, with his two front teeth missing, his hair straightened in this thing almost emo combover, and his eyes rolling as he is possessed, you might think it's crazy. You might think that because this is true. The Detroit-eater was one of the most manic of rappers rap game over the last two years, and I am pleased to report that, with XXX (alternately "Thirty" and "Triple X"), Brown led his insanity to a whole new level of brilliance. It's a little less than an hour drug rotten, music mad limits that only Brown can do, and I think it's his best effort yet. Hit the jump to take a journey into the mind of the craziest rapper in the game. Delivery of Brown is also shifted as ever, and if you're not used to that, his sharp, wild-eyed delivery can be a bit overwhelming. Delivery absurdly unbalanced part of what makes this music work, however, Brown and sticks to it for most of the band. He also perfected, and I mean the point, the art of the post-line feedback / exclamations. The way he sends a quick "STYLE!"At the end of his punchlines, or echoes trippiest like the parrot in the world (including the classic" DUUDEEE MAAHH "Buried somewhere) is more addictive than drugs, he speaks as imbibition. For the last piece of the project Brown dropped his voice, his jet slows down and gets reflected an approach that compensates for what it lacks in the madness with his piercing and honesty in the portrayal of a lively city of death.
At one point, Brown described himself as "Langston Hughes with a fuse blew and a screw loose," a description that says a lot about him.Brown crafts his lyrics with evident care, and when it is reflected, as he did at the end, he painted the lives of urban poor in a way that is reminiscent of the ability of Hughes portray the lives of urban communities. Brown sees and hates the problems that plague Detroit: as much as he talks about the sale of drugs, on titles such as "Nosebleed" he shows he knows the cycle that so many get caught and ruined by.This portrait of lyricist Brown, however apt when applied to his more serious work, does not really do justice to what most of his "loose screw" music is about: drugs, crime, his cock, all the unspeakable things he did for your girlfriend right now, and how you, as a rapper whack, suck.
Will there's a Wei: Genius Child by Langston Hughes
I was think about woodchucks being one of my"animal guides" because I see them all the time, and I sort caught one off guard on the bridge today. We were both quite startled...caught each other dreaming...we sorta had a moment there. I was surprised by what I found, actually that I found anything at all, because I'm sure I have tried to find something of the sort in the past. I am actually kinda freaked out about it all almost because I had this random thought last week sometime about how I was going to give myself two years to just keep up my current doings and see where that lead me, so I would stop evaluating and judging my progress every 5 minutes. The weird thing is that I had that thought in the same place where i came up on the woodchuck today. Also I have been enjoying a dream life of late of unprecedented significance. And if you know me you know I have a history of "boundary issues". Maybe I'm "high", but dang...Synchronicity, or what? For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. ...For poise, walk with the knowledge you never walk alone. People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others." — Audrey Hepburn Once upon a time, in a land not so terribly far from here, a naive and innocent young man had a child with his “high school sweet-heart”. The match was not made in heaven. The young man, who had many unresolved issues following him from his less than idyllic childhood, did the best he could to love and care for his new little family. He vowed to not do all of the things that he considered the bad parts of his life before. He wouldn't be selfish, or abusive, or absent; he would be loving, and supportive, and most importantly non-violent. Many would say that he was very successful in his quest. Then one day as mom was about to make the momentous move of graduating from college the bubble popped. She told dad that she had a boyfriend and she was going to go on vacation with him to Italy. You might say: “What a lovely graduation present” how nice for mom. Dad was obliterated.
