Action 9: Driver says SUV's airbag was defective

One woman said the airbag Troutman in his SUV passed away without the vehicle being in a wreck.

Leslie Reese said his 2003 Ford Expedition was defective passenger-side airbag. She said she has worked twice without the vehicle being in a wreck.

"(I) crank the car, put it in the drive (and) passenger-side airbag went off," said Reese. "I thought I had been shot."

When it happened four years ago, Ford replaced the airbag, Reese said he was a faulty wiring harness, she said.

"They ran a code and it came with a specific code," said Reese. "They said, 'Oh yes, we will correct it. No problem."

But the second time, Reese said, Ford had a different reaction.

"They said, 'Well, come (as) the same code, but it's your problem now," said Reese.

She complained to the Legal Service of Ford, who, after several months, agreed to send him a check for $ 3,000 to cover repairs. But Reese had to sign a statement saying she would no longer hold the company responsible. It does not say, but Ford has never sent the check.

"In three weeks, literally, you guys did what I could not do in eight months," said Reese.

After Action 9 contacted Ford, Reese said workers told her if she would sign a separate release, they send him a check.

But when Action 9 messages left with the legal department requesting a response to Ford's complaint Reese airbag and if there were others, no return phone calls.

Action 9 then checked with the Center for Auto Safety and found that Ford issued a recall earlier this year to 144,000 trucks F150 side airbag deployments. Regulators said there were 269 reported incidents.

While Reese plans to use her check to fix the airbag, she says she still does not give a good feeling.

"Even if it's done, I do not feel safe," she said.

Install a CD Player in a Ford F150

The Ford F150 has been the best selling vehicle in America annually 27 times, during its production cycle. Unfortunately, some entry level models of the F150 didn’t come equipped with a CD player, but rather a simple AM/FM radio. Whether you are adding a CD player in your F150 for the first time, or replacing a broken one, the installation instructions are the same.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and park the F150 in a well-lit area. Gather all tools required for procedure and have a seat inside the truck.

Use the trim panel tool to remove the radio surround panel, which includes the center air vents. The panel is not mounted with bolts or screws, but rather clips. If you don’t have the trim panel tool, you can try popping it off with your hands.

Use the Ford radio hooks to remove the radio head unit. Locate the tool holes on top of one another on each side of the radio. Insert the hooks fully, and then push the hooks outward to release the mounting clips. The radio will slip right out.

Disconnect the wiring harness and the antenna cable from the rear of the old radio head unit and set the unit aside.

Replace the factory wiring harness with the one specific to your CD player. Follow package instructions carefully; they vary greatly with different models.

Mount the proper bracket into the radio cavity. All Ford F150 trucks have a double DIN radio cavity. If you are switching to a single DIN unit, you will need a mounting kit for double DIN radio cavities. If you are installing another double DIN unit, use the normal mounting kit provided in the installation kit.

Plug the wiring harness into the new CD player and install the antenna cable. Install the CD player into the mounting bracket with the provided screws. Replace the radio surround trim panel (it pops right back in), and reconnect the negative battery cable to try out your new CD player.

Aftermarket hooks suitable for a Ford radio may be available from an auto parts store or a car audio shop. The radio cannot be removed without the hooks.
