County's sharpest target shooting awards
Junior and senior grand champion shooter awards were presented on Thursday at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush.Greyson Kehm and Zach Wunsch were named the grand champion overall shooters for senior and junior divisions, respectively.
Kehm's senior plaque was from the South Platte Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Volunteer Jon Flair sponsored the junior award.
To qualify for awards, youth must shoot in a minimum of three divisions and complete a record book. Kehm competed in .22, air rifle and archery. Wunsch competed in .22, shotgun, skeet and five stand, muzzleloading, air rifle, and archery.
Reserve champions were Andrew Schoemaker, junior, and Levi Gapter,.
Flair spoke about awards that are given in honor of Mary Seely, Morgan County shooting sports coordinator, who passed away in 2008.
The first award was presented to a youth who exhibited skills in helping others and serving as a mentor for other youth.
The 2011 winner is Trever Carritt.
The second award was given to a 4-H shooting sports leader who has shown caring, compassion and commitment to the youth. The 2011 recipients are Michelle Christensen and Mark Hanson.
4-H leaders assisting with the shooting sports program made all the ribbon presentations to the youth from the County Fair competitions.
Assisting with .22 contest and helping with the .22 presentations were Karl Dahle, Michelle Christensen and John Goodman.
Mark Hanson served as the muzzleloading superintendent, and Dana Hanson and Tonya Hanson presented the muzzleloading awards.
They thanked the other volunteers who have helped, including Jeffrey Hanson, Danielle Allman, Bill Lang and Ed Rowland.
Paul Oliveria was the shotgun superintendent. Presenting the shotgun awards were assistant superintendents Wally Wunsch and Dave Gapter.
Andy Larrick and Dave Gapter recognized winners in the five-stand and skeet competition.
Steve Kehm, Karl Dahle and John Goodman recognized air rifle award winners.
Air pistol awards were given by Michelle Christensen and her junior leader helper, Jenna Christensen.
Jon Flair and Jim Volk recognized the archery participants.
New 4-H volunteers trained in 2011 who were present at the awards celebration were recognized for their help in 2011. They were Danielle Allman, Chad Carlson, Karl Dahle, John Sweenie and Wally Wunsch.
