Video games take over San Diego Comic Con 2011

Previously on... well, you get the idea. If you are reading this, then that means you like video games and live, or are at least interested in, San Diego. Well, on July 21, 2011 video games and San Diego came together (along with comic books, manga, anime, TV shows, action figures, movies, cosplaying, must I continue?) in what is known the world over as the San Diego Comic Con. Though tickets to Comic Con began to sell out at Comic Con 2010, the big dogs known as Nintendo and SEGA did the smart (and nice) thing and set up their stations around (not in) Comic Con, allowing every local video game fan to live the dream that is demoing the most anticipated software of the year and beyond.

Just to the right of the San Diego Convention Center, in the Marriott Hotel, Nintendo was host to one of the biggest parties at Comic Con. Available to play were most of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS titles such as Super Mario 3DS, Star Fox 64 3D, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. And although The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D was released in May, Nintendo had several stations ready to demo that game as well.

But the demo that had people lining up was The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The game, though one of the most anticipated games of the holiday season, was surrounded by controversy upon Nintendo's reveal that it would be a prequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. However, there is no denying the demo played well. The graphics looked great and the controls were similar to The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess', if not dare I say, better. With an extensive demo that allowed visitors to play through a dungeon, fight a boss, and race on the back of giant birds, anyone who was able to play the demo was able to get a good idea of what the final game is going to be like.

One of the other games available to play was the upcoming title Kirby Wii. Like previous Kirby games, it is a side scroller platformer that involves Kirby "sucking up" the bad guys and absorbing their powers. What makes this title stand out, however, is its multiplayer game-play. Up to three additional people can join in at any moment simply by pressing "A" on their Wii Remote. The new player is then given the option to play as Meta Knight, Kind DeDeDe, or a Waddle De. Though you do not have to play with four people, doing so certainly increases the Kirby experience. In fact, certain areas can only be accessed with certain characters' powers.

Pokemon was also present in the form of Pokedex 3D, the new game that is available for free via Nintendo's eShop on the Nintendo 3DS. Though it is a free game that you can download and play from the comfort of your home, demoing it at Comic Con came with some sweet bonuses, such as a free Pokemon t-shirt, Pokemon pins, exclusive AR cards, and a Pokemon sports bag. In addition, giant AR Pokemon markers were present, allowing you to take a picture with a life-size Pokemon via the Nintendo 3DS' camera.
